Biography
Gene Sine was born in 1944 and was raised in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated from Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Washington in 1973. While he was a student at Western, he pursued photography as a minor along with a degree in Geology and a strong concentration in the natural sciences and writing.
Photography has always been a fascination and strong attraction for Gene since his early youth. He started out initially with a simple Kodak box camera as a boy and graduated slowly to a hard-earned SLR camera purchased when he was 19. Cameras have always followed Gene as he studied, traveled and helped raise two children.
In 1980 Gene graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago and returned home to his beloved northwest and slowly revived his love and interest in photography. It has always been an adventure learning and creating images with his camera.
Along with this he has renewed his long term love affair with the out-of-doors and has spent a good part of his spare time hiking, backpacking, skiing and most recent years adventuring in Alaska, where he dreams, fishes, writes, and shoot pictures. Often he has shared his adventures with friends and acquaintances. He currently volunteers at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge offering photo workshops in wildlife photography.
Gene has progressed through the years with the different formats he shoots in. He began with 35mm slides, progressed into 2 1/4” format with a Contax 645 and recently has included a heavy dose of digital photography. He currently shoots a Canon 20 D. He does all of his printing using Epsom fine art digital printers with archival inks and paper.
Gene’s works have been showcased in locations such as the Washington State Capitol, private galleries throughout the state, and Providence St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, Washington.
